PDH/PE

At St Bernard’s we believe that we have a responsibility to build and nurture an active, responsible and informed community. We believe that there is a link between good physical and mental health, and successful social and family relationships. PDHPE is an important area within the primary curriculum that permeates all aspects of school life.

PDHPE relates to:

  • Physical, social, cognitive and emotional growth and development patterns;
  • The development and maintenance of positive interpersonal relationships;
  • The factors influencing personal health choices;
  • Living and learning in a safe environment;
  • The adoption of an active lifestyle
  • Fundamental movement patterns and coordinated actions of the body.

St Bernard’s conducts annual Swimming, Athletics and Cross-Country Carnivals. Students aged from 8 years and older are eligible to participate in these Primary Carnivals. Following these events, teams are selected to represent St Bernard’s at the Regional level. Students can go on to represent the Regional Catholic Schools at the Archdiocesan level, and beyond.

Students in Kinder, Year One and Year Two (under 8 years) participate in modified Cross Country races and events at the Athletics Carnival.

During the year, specialist skill development officers visit the school to conduct sporting clinics for students from Kindergarten to Year 6. These may be followed up with Gala Days for students in Years 3 - 6, in which they compete against other schools in the local area.
